Democracy, as an universal principle, requires maximum social engagement, and the Centre for Monitoring and Research (CeMI) will remain dedicated to achieving free and fair society, democratic ideals and strengthening all democratic institutions.
Policy Researcher at CeMI, Nikola Zecevic, said in a statement for PR Centre, that on the occasion of September 15th, International Day of Democracy, this organization is marking the date that United Nations (UN) founded 11 years ago.
„This foundation goes with an important jubilee, more precisely the fact that ten years ago, parliaments in most of the member states respected the UN recommendation and began with the celebration of this date“, Zecevic said.
According to his words, democracy as an universal principle requires maximum social engagement especially, when it is fragile and imperfect as Montenegrin is.
„CeMI is dedicated to achieving free and fair society, democratic ideals and strengthening all democratic institutions. CeMI will continue to persist in democratic positions, pointing up the importance of full democratic consolidation of Montenegrin society“, Zecevic said.
He said that CeMI, through the projects, is working intensively on improving all basic principles of democracy.
„I am referring to the reform of electoral legislation and the political system in general, the development of inter-party democracy, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, fair elections, judicial reform and respect for human and minority rights“, Zecevic said.
The NGO sector, he believes, is one of the pillars of every democratic society.
„I want to point out that CeMI will continue to participate actively and intensively in this process“, Zecevic stressed.
