First International Summer School of European Union law “Right to education and democracy – European experience”

University of Donja Gorica and the Centre for Monitoring and Research CeMI in the period from 24th  to 28th  May 2016, organized the International Summer School of European Union law, entitled “The Right to Education and Democracy – European experience.” The school was opened by the director of the Directorate of Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education Veljko Tomic and Mayor of Bar Zoran Srzentić.

In addition to students, the right to the presence of summer school this year and get the high school students.

Eminent speakers from the region and from countries around Southeast Europe, such as Dr. Milan Podunavac, Dr. Radmila Marojević, Dr. Anette Caplan, Dr. Stevan Lilic, Dr. Marianne Pajvančić, doc. Dr. Darko Dimovski and many other participants spoke about the European education system and the importance of respect for democratic values in the EU Member States.

During the five-day stay in Bar students of the school had the opportunity to hear lectures leading experts from the fields of law, political science and art, as well as get answers to some of the most important issues in the field of European Union law. Some of the topics that are eminent lecturers spoke concerning the competence of the European Union in the field of education, legal clinics as a form of modern education of lawyers, prohibiting discrimination in the field of higher education, the relationship between education and religion, creativity and art as well as human resources.

Participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the European model of education that provides an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that are valued in the labor market. Active participation of youth in the labor market is an important part of the process of democratization and economic development of the country, which is why the international summer school presented specific solutions for the reform of the education system in Montenegro, which include informal forms of education, as well as organizing a network of young people around the bodies which provide the ability to work creatively, to improve their communication and leadership skills, cooperate with similar organizations and institutions in the country and abroad, create greater opportunities to travel and learn and thus improve employment and the mobility of its labor market services. Students of the school are socially engaged young people who are participating in the discussions on the best way to present needs and deficiencies faced, as well as their vision on the most suitable model of education.

A critical edition of the book “Luča Mikrokozma” by Petar II Petrovic Njegos, the author Radmila Marojević promoted on May 26th  2016 at the Castle of King Nikola in Bar. The promotion was organized in the framework of the International summer school “The right to education and democracy-European experience”. At the promotion were: Dr. Radmilo Jovanović, the author of publications, Tonko Maroević, professor of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb and prof. Dr. Dragan K. Vukčević, the Dean of Faculty of Law in Podgorica.

On Saturday, May 28th, during the closing ceremony of the school, all the students received diplomas.

School was organized by the University of Donja Gorica in cooperation with partners: Center for Monitoring and Research CeMI, Art Communications from Podgorica, the Center for International Studies from Croatia and the Center for European Perspective from Slovenia, the project “Be prepared for EU values” is supported by the European Commission within the program Erasmus Plus (call Youth Capacity Building – Western Balkans).
